Letter T Graphics

Slowly. Very slowly.

I installed NextGEN Gallery and am finally getting around to seeing how it works. It seemed to be the best rated WordPress gallery plugin.

The organization is a little backwards from what I’m used to, with galleries nested in albums instead of the other way around. I will be playing with things over the next week or so as I try and figure out the best organizational system for my pieces. Things will change, disappear, reappear… possibly more!

Until I’m set though, feel free to poke around my Portfolio page and see what’s already there.

Comments are always welcome!

Thanks.

We recently had a webinar training event through work. It dealt with the topic of designing an effective ad, specifically for newspaper advertising.

There was some good info presented. According to their statistics, newspapers are not a dying media, as TV would have you believe. They are still completely relevant when it comes to informing consumers about their options in local, small scale markets. Good news for someone in my profession to be sure!

There were also some great ideas present about how to build an effective ad, but it was all stuff I learned in school while earning my BFA. I’ve heard it all before, they just presented examples of good design technique. The webinar was not really intended for a designer’s ear. I think it would have been better suited to sales staff and advertisers, to see what’s possible and what can be done to grab a consumers attention when it comes to advertising design.

Why ramble on about all this without any true details? Because the essence of this post is the notes I took during the webinar.

My Notes

Instead of the obligatory doodles I used to do, I find myself designing my notes more and more. I think this will be the first in a series of posts I make on my designed notes.

I know they aren’t ground breaking, nor are they earth shattering in terms of design. One must admit, though, that they aren’t your usual seminar notes. I find it helps fuel my creative mind to think about layout as I make notes. I’m excited to see where this sort of thing takes me.

Poster Design

I love cars. Most anything automotive interests me, especially unique and/or rare automobiles. I was lucky enough to own one such car for a little over 6 years. I owned 1992 GMC Typhoon 2482 (out of 2497). As such, the SyTy culture became a large part of my life. I’ve met a lot of cool people from www.SyTy.net, attended 2 SyTy Nationals events; one in KC and the other in Bowling Green, KY.

These posters were inspired by my love for Syclones and Typhoons:

From those, I offered to do custom work for anyone interested. My one custom poster turned out pretty well, I thought (done for Dennis Harmon, owner of the Typhoon pictured):

I’m looking forward to finding time for more poster design, both on my own and inspired by “custom” projects. I’d also like to eventually branch out into other “Auto Cultures” but I need to make sure I have the time so I can offer good customer service on top of good design… as the posters are for sale if you are interested.

If you would like a custom one of your vehicle, send me and email and we can work something out. I also print them on my own, which helps cut down costs.

Odd. This is a blog that's supposed to be about Graphic Design. Yet, Faith is a part of me. Even a larger part than my "design inklings." So I guess it should be of no surprise that my first, real-live, actual post is not about design. But about faith... Read more

Hi. Welcome to the new Blog portion of my website. As you can see, there are some gaping holes in this website. Why is that you ask? It’s because I haven’t filled everything in yet. Pretty simple huh?

Eventually, this space will be used to communicate to you what I am doing as a freelance graphic designer, what projects I’m working, what I’m learning about, what interests me, etc. It will be a way for you to see my process, my inspiration and ultimately, my work.

Maybe you’ll see something that catches your eye and my design style will work for a project you have coming up. Maybe you’ll read an article I found, or see a cool image I stumbled across and it will inspire you or teach you something new. That’s just as cool to me.

Design should be more than a job. It should be a passion that is shared between designers so we can keep our trade alive and keep it from being watered down by “insta-design” sites.

There’s more to come! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you come back soon.

Thanks.
